Session 1: Workshop D: 9.15am - 10.30am (Widgets and Wizards for General & Further Mathematics ) Partial Approval - Free

Presenter: Brian Lannen. Isn’t there an app for that? These days there usually is. With new operating system releases and ongoing refinement of the TI-Nspire™ platform, many standard numerical, financial and statistical procedures are streamlined into user-friendly step-by-step packages. A great deal of these are already programmed into the TI-Nspire and anything else can be tailor-made and stored as a widget for immediate recall within any future document. This session explores some of the pre-packaged wizards that are really helpful in supporting the General & Further Mathematics courses as well as demonstrating (and sharing) useful widgets for data analysis, finance, recursion, linear functions, unit conversions and trigonometry.

Session 2: Workshop G: 11.00am - 12.15pm (The game is not the same) Partial Approval - Free

Presenter: Jim Lowe. The game of cricket has changed dramatically. With the recent surge in popularity of T20 games following other innovations, the changes since the seventies have been significant. Similarly, cricket media coverage, which has always been rich in the use of statistics, has changed to mirror the technology revolution taking place at the same time. Using real-life examples and real data is one way to encourage engagement with and excellence in mathematics. This workshop will highlight the connections between the graphs produced during TV coverage and those that can easily be produced using TI-Nspire™ technology to create and analyse real match data.
